When you undergo coaching, some interesting stuff gets brought up. Particularly around rules.
The only way to advance my career is to get a degree. That’s a rule.
I can’t quit this relationship because of what others may think. There’s another rule.
If I didn’t have to work full-time to pay the bills, I could start my own business. And another.
I don’t have the time to… RULE.
Rules run our lives. Sometimes they are Limiting Beliefs (more on those later), sometimes they are habits. They come from many places: our upbringing, getting yelled at by someone, failing, succeeding, rejection, acceptance…you get the picture. And you know better than I do where they derive.
There’s more to say about Rules, and I have a lifetime to do it, but for today, do me a favor: think about an area of your life that you want to change, or an area that you want to grow in. What Rules have you created for yourself in that area? How are they holding you back, and what is that costing you?
