When it’s time to get rid of a necktie, you can base your decision on the most obvious factor: wear. Stains and signs of deterioration mean it’s time for that one to go (unless that doesn’t bother you, I suppose).
Another factor in your decision could be resonance: do I still like this tie? Does it go with the shirts that I have? Is it still emblematic of the image I want to present? When I put it on, do I feel good?
I got rid some ties this weekend: some were worn out, but the majority just didn’t fit anymore.
If only we had the same discerning nature with other parts of our life (habits, beliefs, individuals, etc.) as we do with ties.
