It really doesn’t have to be painful: that thing you’re putting off, that meeting you need to have, that project that is looming over you, the conversation that needs to take place. Whatever that painful thing/event/circumstance is, put it in your head right now. Mull over these questions:
What about this is painful?
What does it feel like to sit with that pain?
What if you just walked away forever? What would that be like?
What are you saying “yes” to by being in pain? What are you saying “no” to?
How is this pain empowering you?
What’s possible from staying in the pain?
Now I want you stand up, and move to a different location. Stand powerfully with your legs shoulder width apart, your hands on your hips like Superman. Take some breaths from this place, following it in and out of your nostrils, your lungs. Do that for about a minute, then answer these questions:
What if I approached this from the perspective of power? What values would I be honoring?
How much more resonant would my life be if I were to go through with this?
What advice would someone I look up to give me about approaching this?
Who would I become if I were to go through with this?
What’s possible from this perspective?
So…what’s shifted for you now?
