The longest wait of my life was the week that a computer monitor sat in a box next to my desk at work. Begging to be used. Wanting to make me more productive.
It was a monitor I could have easily installed, but I didn’t.
Because I wasn’t supposed to. I was dutifully informed by the administrative assistant that it was IT’s job to do that. And I knew better to go against the gruff assistant.
But that’s not true. I was too afraid of the waves that I would make if I did. Afraid of the “wrath” of the administrative assistant.
Ridiculousness of having someone whose job is to install monitors aside, I tell you this story as a cautionary tale. I created my own hell. Not willing to “break the rules” but not willing to be at peace with my decision.
You’re still damned, whether you do or you don’t. Make your decision and stand in it.
