When I was young, there’s no question that I never felt has powerful as I did when I put on my Superman Underoos. I felt safer, more confident, and determined to do what’s right when I knew that I had been imbued with the power of Superman. My other underwear simply couldn’t match up.
We laugh (or smile wistfully) reflecting back on those memories now, the notion of getting power through underwear. But it happened. It was real. Our seven-year-old minds made it real. And it’s no different from the “games” we play today (or don’t play) to help us feel confident and determined when we need to.
The underwear was a placebo for the feelings we wanted – needed – to feel. A false catalyst. Back then, we needed them.
What do we need now to feel like we did back then?
