If you are fortunate enough to have the ability to hire a plumber, would you have that person come to your house and ask him/her to install cable television in another room?
Or would you ask your yoga teacher to help you pick stocks?
This isn’t to say that either one isn’t able to do these things, but there logical delineations around what you hire each to do. Mentoring works the same way. If you use your mentor to look at your current problem(s) in the same way, or as someone to which to piss and moan, you are essentially asking them to water your garden or fix your car. Not a good use of their time, nor a novel way to approach those things that are impacting your career.
